I’m changing my system up a little bit here. Based on current league standings (and the standings are starting to make sense) and the system of using 3 teams from 4 leagues (for leagues with more than 5 teams), 2 teams from 3 leagues (for leagues with 4 or 5 teams) and 2 wild-cards for a 20-team playoff, the playoff teams would be, with their league records in parentheses:

Cowapa: Astoria (3-0), Banks (2-1), Tillamook (2-1) Capital: Estacada (4-0), Gladstone (4-0), Stayton (3-2) Far West: Douglas (3-0), South Umpqua (2-1), North Bend (2-1) Valco: Central (2-0), Philomath (2-0) Sky-Em: Marist (4-0), Junction City (4-1), LaPine (2-2) Skyline: Hidden Valley (3-0), N. Valley (2-0) GOL: Baker (1-0) and McLoughlin (1-0)

The two wildcard teams would be LaSalle and Elmira.

In this week: South Umpqua, McLoughlin
Out this week: Henley, Ontario

4A Playoff according to current records

Before I get rolling on this, if you have ANY reasonable suggestions at all, feel free to leave a comment either on the blog or on oregonlive.com forums.

I'll start by placing the 7 league leaders in the first 7 spots in the bracket. They will go in point order ABCDDCB

Pool A: Astoria
Pool B: Gladstone, Douglas
Pool C: Central, Hidden Valley
Pool D: Marist, Baker

Now to put in the 7 league 2nd-place teams opposite the league champions. Since Pools A and D will be on the top half-bracket, and pools B and C on the bottom half-bracket, I’ll separate based on that. Each team will be placed in the first spot they can possibly be placed in pools AABCDDC

Pool A: Astoria, N. Valley, Estacada
Pool B: Gladstone, Douglas, Banks
Pool C: Central, HV, Junction City, McLoughlin
Pool D: Marist, Baker, Philomath, S. Umpqua

Now the third place teams and the wildcards go into the bracket. They should not be put in a pool with any other team from the same league if at all possible. They will go in pools BAABCD.

Pool A: Astoria, NV, Estacada, North Bend, Elmira
Pool B: Gladstone, Douglas, Banks, LaPine, LaSalle
Pool C: Central, HV, JC, McLoughlin, Tillamook
Pool D: Marist, Baker, Philomath, SU, Stayton

Dang. Unsuccess. Where can these teams go? Tillamook and Stayton HAVE to take the 2 empty spots in C & D as it is set at the moment. It seems a solution is to move McLoughlin over to pool B…let’s give it a try.

Pool A: Astoria, NV, Estacada, LaPine, North Bend
Pool B: Gladstone, Douglas, Banks, McLoughlin, Elmira
Pool C: Central, HV, JC, Tillamook, Stayton
Pool D: Marist, Baker, Philomath, SU, LaSalle

Success!

The bracket would be:
North Bend @ LaPine, winner @ Astoria
Estacada @ North Valley
Philomath @ Baker
LaSalle @ South Umpqua, winner @ Marist
Elmira @ McLoughlin, winner @ Gladstone
Banks @ Douglas
Junction City @ Hidden Valley
Stayton @ Tillamook, winner @ Central
