I’m making a slight change here. The two leagues with 5 teams will only get two automatic berths into the playoffs, which will add two wild card teams to the mix. Only seems fair. As based on current league standings (yes, I know, very early in the season) and the system of using 3 teams from three leagues, 2 teams from two leagues and 3 wild-cards for a 16-team playoff, the playoff teams would be, with their league records in parentheses:

Northwest: Knappa (2-0), Portland Christian (2-0) Mountain View: Oakridge (5-0), Central Linn (4-1), Oakland (4-1) Tri-River: Culver (3-0), Santiam (2-1), Scio (2-1) SCL: Lakeview (2-0), Lost River (2-0) Blue Mtn: Heppner (5-0), Pilot Rock (4-1) and Elgin (4-1).

The wild cards would be Bonanza, Nestucca and Weston-McEwen.

2A Playoff according to current records

Before I get rolling on this, if you have ANY reasonable suggestions at all, feel free to leave a comment either on the blog or on oregonlive.com forums.

We start by placing the 5 league leaders in the first 5 spots in the bracket. They will go in point order into pools ABCDD.

Pool A: Culver
Pool B: Portland Christian
Pool C: Heppner
Pool D: Lakeview, Oakridge

Now to put in the 5 league 2nd-place teams opposite the league champions. Since Pools A and D will be on the top half-bracket, and pools B and C on the bottom half-bracket, I’ll separate based on that. Each team will be placed in the first spot they can possibly be placed in pools CBAAB

Pool A: Culver, Pilot Rock, Knappa
Pool B: PC, Santiam, Lost River
Pool C: Heppner, Central Linn
Pool D: Lakeview, Oakridge

Now the third place teams go into the bracket. They should not be put in a pool with any other team from the same league. Once Elgin is placed, we know where Weston-McEwen will go, and hopefully we can fill in the other two wild-card teams.

Pool A: Culver, Pilot Rock, Knappa, Oakland
Pool B: PC, Santiam, Lost River, Weston-McEwen
Pool C: Heppner, CL, Scio, Bonanza
Pool D: Lakeview, Oakridge, Elgin, Nestucca

Oakland was put in pool A so that we had a place to put Weston-McEwen.
